Emotional distress caused by slander?

Is it considered slanderous behavior if a family member makes false claims to others that I have a serious mental illness (bipolar disorder). Due to their allegations, I have seen not 1, not 2 but 3 psychological professionals all with either a Ph.D, Psy D and/or LCSW. Though I have seen professionals, the allegations continue! They have caused shame and tremendous embarrment for me and my family. I have felt pushed out of the family as a result. I don't want money;I just want it to stop. Is their behavior slander?
