Can errors in DNA extraction lead to errors in DNA band visibility?

I'm left panicked when I cannot even find a single band during agarose gel electrophoresis for MTb diagnosis by Pleural fluid as sample for DNA extraction for diagnostic PCR. Could it have occurred by mistakes in DNA extraction?
