Using a flash drive as a hard drive for xbox 360 slim?

I play halo reach, but I only have the standard 4 gig Xbox 360 slim, so I can't play games and do certain things like firefight online, watch my game replays, etc because every time I try it says "one or more persons cannot play because they do no have a hard drive" or something like that. Will using a regular flash drive work in place of the $100 hard drive microsoft has for the xbox? Thanks
